City Council passes budget: includes $10 for "something from the corner store," $25 for Mayor's "bring me my purse" fund.

Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville City Council passed the City's budget tonight in an 18-1 vote. 

Among the most anticipated items in the budget were $10 for "something from the store," which includes a "and bring me my change" provision, as well as $25 for Mayor Donna Deegan's "bring me my purse" discretionary fund.

Councilman Rory Diamond was the lone "no" vote on the budget, citing objections to the $5 increase from last year's store budget. 

"Just last year we only had $5 in this fund and we were able to get four 2/$1 chips, four Now & Laters, and an Arizona, with change left over.

Councilman Kevin Carrico said "The cost of Now and Laters has gone from $0.25 to 3/$1 and the man at the store charges $1.50 for Arizonas now, we also had a request from new Councilwoman Holder for a full-sized bag of Takis, which costs more than the bag of pork skins former Councilman Freeman used to get. 

This is just the reality we're living in right now, $10 is what's needed for a decent run to the corner store; otherwise the Mayor has to dig through her purse when it's time to check out, like she did last year when Joe Carlucci put a white Monster on the counter at the last second."
