FWC: Increase in reports of St. Johns River tickle monster encounters, exercise caution

Jacksonville, FL — The Florida Fish and Wildlife conservation commission has issued an advisory for anyone planning to spend time in or on the St. Johns River in the coming months.

"We have received a number of reports of swimmers and boaters encountering the tickle monster, with hundreds of reports coming in from triathletes who swam the river this weekend. We want to remind everyone that the St. Johns tickle monster is a protected native species, and it is known to attack without warning when startled. Please exercise caution."
