Florida — After it was revealed that Attorney General James Uthmeier was being paid $100,000 for teaching a class at the University of Florida, Duval Tribune reporters discovered that the rest of the Florida cabinet also held part-time jobs.
Wilton Simpson:
We caught up with Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson on the side of I-10, near Marianna, where he works 10 hours per week as a landscaping crew lead.
"Yeah, I been doing this off and on since taking office, it doesn't pay much, but it helps keep the fridge full, ya know?"
Blaise Ingoglia:
We stopped to talk with Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia at his side gig working the deli counter at a Panama City Beach Publix.
"This is a pretty solid deal I've got here, hours are flexible. But look, the boss here is a real 'no-nonsense' hardass, so you either gotta order a sub or I have to ask you to keep it moving."
Ron Desantis:
Finally, we caught up with Governor Ron Desantis at his line cook job at Florida Cracker Kitchen in Brooksville.
"I'm not gonna be Governor forever, I need something to fall back on, this place is great, they let me bring my kids in while the first lady is bagging groceries at Publix—CFO Ingoglia helped her get that job, you know—so I figure I can take a few hours out of every week to flip some burgers and fry up some ribs, what can I make for you? Entree is on 'Top Gov.'"
