BREAKING: Jacksonville City Council unanimously votes to provide $2M in coupons to residents amid loss of SNAP benefits.

Jacksonville, FL — Amid the federal government shutdown and the loss of SNAP benefits for local residents, the Jacksonville City council unanimously approved Councilman Rahman Johnson's measure to provide $2M in coupons to struggling residents.

Our reporters spoke with Councilman Johnson after the meeting:

"This is a spectacular demonstration of bipartisan governance. This body has locked arms and demonstrated that we can and will take care of our community when times get hard. All of the hungry residents in this city will now be entitled to 5%-25% off of certain P&G and Unilever food items."

The council also voted down a measure introduced by Council President Carrico and Councilman Ron Salem which would have provided $200,000 in fast food coupons to hungry residents.

The measure was voted down after the coupons were discovered to have expired last week.
